Tableau Developer – Contract

We are looking for a talented Tableau Developer to join our team on a contract basis.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Tableau development and a strong background in SQL. This role involves creating, updating, and maintaining Tableau dashboards, analyzing data, and working collaboratively with team members to facilitate data-driven decision-making.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver high-performance Tableau dashboards and visualizations providing key insights to the client.
  • Provide deep Tableau knowledge and expertise regarding how to build and maintain Tableau Cloud dashboards and reports.
  • Tune Tableau dashboards for performance (optimize extracts, limit fields/records, marks, optimize/materialize calculations, query optimization, workbook cleanup, etc.) and implement best practices based on current trends and technologies.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and design optimal solutions at the report/dashboard level.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to update and optimize data schemas.
  • Work with project manager, product team, data engineers, and end users to gather requirements (use cases, visualization, drill up/down, hierarchies, tables, pivots, outcomes, and data sources, etc.).
  • Understand technical data sources, data structures, data quality, and necessary transformations to aggregate, enrich, validate, and publish data.
  • Provide support for existing Tableau environments and projects.

About you

  • 3-5 years of Business Intelligence (BI) experience developing Tableau dashboards, reporting, visualizations, and data models.
  • Strong skills in Tableau dashboard design, development, tuning, and best practices.
  • Excellent data visualization and design skills.
  • Proficiency in SQL (joins, queries, select statements).
  • Knowledge about data modeling and data prep (discovery, structuring, cleaning, enriching, validation, publishing).
  • Performance tuning across the front end, ETL, and data back end optimization.
  • Solid Agile experience on development projects – gathering requirements, translating to use cases, stories, delivery.
  • Exposure to Python.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex problems and develop work plans to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with other data visualization tools is highly desirable.

Salary & Expectations

The role will be part time for approximately 20 hours/week for 4-6 months with the possibility of extension after. The expected hiring range for this position is $40-80/hour depending on experience and qualifications.
